Puppy Checklist
New Puppy

There are not many events in life that are more exciting than bringing home a new puppy! Everything will go so much more smoothly if you have all the right tools and supplies on hand when you bring the new puppy home. Mercantile on Broad has put together a checklist of some important supplies to get everything started on the right foot.

  1. Dog crate. Make sure it’s a size he can grow into . The crate will be a place he will want to go for comfort and it should be big enough that he can stand up and turn around inside of it.
  2. Puppy Pen. This will help with potty training. Puppies can be a real handful and if they are in a puppy pen in the first few weeks, it will be easier to prevent accidents.
  3. Bed You will want to look for a bed that is not easy to chew and rip out the stuffing. We’ve been there and done that…
  4. Toys This is the fun part! Picking out all the different kinds of toys. You will notice your puppy becomes attached to different types of toys, but for now, buy all sorts of puppy toys.
  5. Bowls The stainless are easy to clean and unbreakable
  6. Dental care. The easier, the better! Dental Fresh Water Additive is our favorite.
  7. Collar. We would also recommend a EZ Walk Harness.Pick your favorite color and get the next size up while you’re at it. Check out our”How to measure for a collar” post soon
  8. ID tag At Mercantile on Broad, we believe that this is one of the most important things you can buy for your pet. It helps reunite lost pets with their owners.
  9. Leash. Not too short!
  10. Grooming kit. A soft bristle brush and something to keep the nails from getting too long
  11. Nutrition. Pick a premium dog food. Our staff at Mercantile on Broad can help you choose the right food for your puppy
  12. Treats. Grain free is always a good choice

Good luck with your new puppy! You will have a friend for life.
