We all know the basic needs of a horse to keep them healthy and happy. They need food, water, and plenty of exercise. But what you might not know is that a horse’s hooves are just as important. Trimming your horses hoof o a regular basis is necessary to prevent cracks and breaking off of the hoof, which could eventually cause lameness. If you continually check on the hooves, you are making the horse and the rider safer. A horse with cared for hooves is less likely to fall, stumble, slip, or require a veterinarian. Don’t over-do on your horses trimming. Try to make the trim as close to nature’s design for the horse. This will provide more comfort to the horse, making him/her an easier ride. If you are using a horse-shoe, make the fit so that it’s the lightest possible shoe that can be on the horse, but can still withstand the stress on the horse.
At the mercantile we sell many horse care and hoof care products, so be sure to check them out.
